( December 2018 | Windy City SYC Chicago, Illinois )

Let's make it a December to remember. Congratulations to Zak Latif who just turned 12-years-old two months ago for his 8th place finish in Y14 this weekend at the Windy City SYC in Chicago, Illinois.  He followed it up by going undefeated in Y12 Men's Epee two days later.  Zak also earned his E Rating so it  was a double medal and 3-in-1 weekend for Zak. Congratulations to Zak and to our winter camp coach Jason Pryor.  Jason has few remaining spots available for private lessons in both our San Jose and San Diego camps. Register now, private lessons are capped at 15 fencers per week.

Epee fencers from Great Britain, USA, Israel, Italy, Argentina, Switzerland, and Denmark made a pit stop at MilanoScherma on their way to Coupe du Monde in Berne, Switzerland this week!  Lucky for us because we don’t have to make a trip all the way to Europe to learn from Maestro Diego Confalonieri. In just 3 weeks more, we will be training and receiving the same level of elite Epee coaching from Milano Scherma Head Coach Diego Confalonieri at The Fencing Center and San Diego Fencing Center with UC San Diego Fencing Team #UCSD  Head Coach Juan Ignacio Calderon.

(November 2018 | Umbria, Italy)

Coach Confalonieri's and Coach Mazzoni’s students Matteo Tagliariol,  Enrico Garozzo, and Isabel Di Tella all took third place at the First National Qualification for Italian Championships. Coach Confalonieri will lead both our December camps in San Jose and San Diego, California and Coach Mazonni will be speaking in both camps.

Speakers, Video Conference and Informative Talk Contributors

Maître D'Armes Angelo Mazzoni Two-time Olympic Champion and six-time Olympian

Topic:

Milano Scherma Maestro Angelo Mazzoni was the eighth fencer, and the first Italian fencer, to compete in six Olympic Games. Compete in six Olympic Games in Fencing? Some athletes think it's impossible. But Mazzoni doesn't agree- "Impossible is Nothing."

In February 2008, he was hired by the Fencing Federation of Switzerland to be in charge of coaching the Switzerland men's and women's team for the 2012 London Olympics. After the 2014 World Fencing Championships, the Russian Fencing Federation announced Mazzoni as the new coach of the Russian senior men's épée team.

Reaching the peak of any sport takes years upon years of focus and proper preparation. Champions, as the familiar adage preaches, aren't born- they're made! The world sees the triumphs, but few people appreciate the work that goes into becoming an Olympic champion. Milano Scherma Co-Founder, Co-Head Coach, two-time Olympic Champion and six-time fencing Olympian Angelo Mazzoni will talk about turning points to greatness using his personal experience competing in multiple Olympic Games.

A good nights sleep, pre-competition warmup music, meals, review of competitive tactics, physical warm-up, technical warm-up, equipment check, and mental preparation. Enrico will teach us ways to improve our competition outcome using a strong pre-competition routine.

Enrico Garozzo, his brother Rio Olympic Games Gold Medalist Daniel Garozzo, and their coaches Diego Confalonieri, Angelo Mazzoni and Fabio Galli will be joining us next year for our "2019 Fun in the Sun Foil and Epee Summer Camp in California" after the 2019 World Championships and 2019 Future Champions Camp 2 in Sicily. Jurgen Reus, MD, PhD Über 23 Jahre Berufserfahrung machen uns das was wir tun zum Vergnügen

Topic: Visualization

Dr. Reus has been a surgeon for 23 years; he was also a parachuter with the German military. Being a very successful surgeon means doing your job well for an extended period while also accomplishing feats along the way that make you a household name, just like athletes. Taking, for example, Vinatieri who is arguably the most famous kicker in NFL history, thanks to the three field goals that sealed Super Bowl wins for New England three different times. Watching NFL kickers before a kick, we can see they are mentally rehearsing their kick before they physically act. Playing, then repeating, the kick perfectly over and over. Surgeons mentally rehearse before an operation. If NFL kickers and surgeons are using visualization to help them succeed when faced with impossible situations, so can we! The key to achieving what we want may lie in our ability to visualize it. Dr. Reus has done hundreds of surgical operations; he will share with us how he uses mental imagery in surgery in the past 23 years.
